De Soematra: Reviving Old World Elegance
July 1, 2011
Set amidst authentic colonial surroundings, de Soematra Function House 1910 is a magnificent, high-class multi-function venue which specializes in holding customized events that are memorable and unique.
De Soematra Function House 1910 is located in an elegantly sumptuous colonial building (Jalan Sumatera No. 75 – Surabaya) that dates back to 1910. Among others, it was once occupied by the Biro Aristech AIA (Algemeen Ingenieurs en Architecten Bureau), a famous architectural and engineering firm during the Dutch period who produced many local landmarks such as the International Building (Gedung Internasional).
One of the oldest buildings in Surabaya, it features many of the period’s most sought-after details such as high 6 meters ceilings ceilings, wooden paneling, and glass panels inset within the doors. Lovingly restored to its full magnificence, de Soematra Function House 1910 is Surabaya’s ultimate showcase of colonial opulence. In the end of 2012, de Soematra Function House 1910 has been chosen as one of Cultural Heritage “Cagar Budaya” in Surabaya – East Java.

A cohesive visual identity was developed, starting with an ornate logo inspired by the original railings of the building. The logo captures the luxurious Old World sophistication of the property with a timelessly elegant feel. The result is a design look and feel that perfectly matches the exquisitely detailed of the venue.
